Principal's Corner
Dear Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School Community,

As we begin our second year at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School, I remain honored and humbled by the opportunity to lead and serve such an extraordinary and innovative school community. Thank you for being part of our founding year and for choosing Sotomayor as the place where your child will learn, grow, and thrive.
At Sotomayor Elementary, students receive a high-quality, well-rounded education that integrates digital media arts, dance, and music. We are proud to offer a Spanish Language Dual Immersion (90/10) program and Special Day Classes (SDC), ensuring that students of all learning needs and backgrounds feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Every effort has been made to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where each child can reach their full potential.
What truly makes our school special is our dedicated staff. Our team is deeply committed to advancing diversity, access, equity, and inclusion through rigorous, standards-based instruction and meaningful learning experiences. With over fifteen years of experience in education, I am committed to supporting our educators in meeting the needs of all students and in promoting measurable growth. Together, we are fostering a culture of thinking where every student is valued, capable, and empowered.
We also recognize the importance of strong partnerships between home, school, and community. I encourage you to stay involved in your child’s education by volunteering, attending events, and joining our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA plays an important role in enriching our students’ school experience by organizing workshops, guest speakers, and community-building events.
I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with each of you, grounded in trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to student success. Let’s work together to make this school year even more impactful than the last. Together, we will ensure that every child at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary reaches their full academic and personal potential.
Working together,
Martha-Irene Garza
