Dear Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School Community,
I am humbled at the opportunity and privilege to lead and serve such a unique and innovative school community like Sonia Sotomayor Elementary. Allstudents at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School will receive a high-quality education that includes digital media arts, dance, and music. In addition, the school will host a Spanish Language Dual Immersion program (90/10 model) and Special Day Classes (SDC). Every effort has been made to ensure that your student will thrive in a safe and nurturing environment and thank you for choosing our school in its inaugural year for the education of your student.
Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School is a special place because of its staff. Our school staff upholds the school's commitment to diversity, access, equity, and inclusion for all students through challenging, state and district approved curriculum. With over fifteen years of experience in education, I am committed to supporting school staff in ensuring that we are addressing the needs of all our students and that every student demonstrates measurable growth. Our school provides a safe and supportive learning environment where all students reach their academic, social, emotional, and artistic potential. Each child is an individual of great worth and the staff strives to instill in each child a life-long love of learning. Together, we will continue to foster an inclusive and positive learning environment where every student feels valued, capable, and empowered to become active members of our learning community: We are creating a culture of thinking.
The school also promotes a strong partnership between home, school, and community. Parents and family members are invited to volunteer and serve our school: We need volunteers to help monitor traffic outside of the school so that all students enter and leave the campus safely. I invite you also to join Coffee with the Principal for a free cup of coffee, information, and conversation. Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School will have an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and I encourage all parents to become a member. The PTA organizes educational programs, workshops, guest speakers, field trips, and other initiatives aimed at enriching students' learning experiences. These activities provide extra educational opportunities beyond the standard curriculum, broadening students' horizons and fostering a love for learning. In addition, the school needs your support for our School Site Council (SSC), English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC), and other advisory groups.
I am looking forward to meeting and building a professional relationship on a foundation of mutual trust and respect with every student, parent, and staff member in the coming weeks and months. Feel free to introduce yourself in-person or leave a note for me in the school office. Although I am often busy supporting staff and students on campus during the school day, I will make every effort to return messages within a reasonable time frame. Follow up consistently with your student’s academic progress by contacting our teachers, volunteering, and supporting our school-wide events. I look forward to advancing our work together in ensuring that each student reaches their full academic and social potential!
Working together,
Martha-Irene Garza
